Founded by Marius van Warden in Monster, Netherlands, 1964, Marius and his brother Hugo moved to  Gouda and then larger premises in 1973 where they chose a simpler name for the company – ‘Vest’ – after the street where the pottery was located. There Vest Keramek operated until 1984, when Marius and his brother moved to Canada to start Castle Ceramics in Norwich, Ontario.

The Dutc-period  pottery is distinguishable by its red clay or is typically glazed in a creamy-colored ‘bubbling’ lava glaze. Other colors for their lava glazes include browns, yellows, white, a muted blue, and an earthy red on rectangular vases with holes, and quirkily shaped jug vases and vases.

Apart from labels, pieces are rarely marked.
