First established as Rocher du Cyclope in the French quarry Adami, a post-war scrap dealer turned pottery maker, Charles Cart, purchased Rocher du Cyclope and within years registered the pottery Le Cyclopes, Emaux des Glaciers, Emaux des Beiges (Le Cyclope Glacial Enamels, Snow Enamels). Between 1958 and 1978, potters created a variety of household wares, but it was single and small set souvenirs in the unusual and highly identifiable company glazes that are mostly seen today. The erupting glazes created niches and a roughness, making the items difficult to use for most intended purposes and may have led to a low popularity that contributed to the company closure, in 1980.
